PAULA HAENI
Selection of recent Works
La Loggia (ongoing)
contra bass clarinet and fx
Deep, loud, distorted, spherical, harsh and yet soft: Paula Haeni searches with the project La Loggia for the limits of electro-acoustic paths, plays with contrabass clarinet and analog effect devices and layers up worlds of noise. The focus is on exploring sounds and pushing the limits of what is possible.
Final Match (2024)
Loud and wild, strong and intimidating, and equally gentle and sensitive - the Final Match installation unfolds in a game of contrasts. It illuminates the many facets of physicality, its backgrounds and emotions. This work is the result of a collaboration between the clarinettist and sound artist Paula Haeni and the visual artist and dancer Stephanie Hess. In Final Match, visitors are immersed in a forest of pulsating sounds. Hanging in the middle of this acoustic landscape are hearts the size of an average person. The installation combines organic, abstract and acoustic aspects of physicality.

KOKON - kein Problem (2024/25)
contemporary experimental jazz trio
The music of “Kokon” sounds delicate, spherical, intimate, sometimes brute, but more often fragile, meditative, sometimes bulky, often sweet. Occasionally there is also a pinch of humor. The three instruments intertwine, play around each other, stretch and compress time, give each other space, find each other or not. They sometimes work as a unit and sometimes as separate actors with their own goals. In this way, they pull and push each other, sometimes light-footedly, sometimes ponderously, through pieces and through worlds.

ombres de l'existence (2024)
for 6 prepared music boxes
The starting point for this work is 6 music boxes, which represent simplicity and the uncomplicated - values that often become more important in the course of life, but are sometimes overlooked in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The music boxes not only carry the lightness of childhood, but also a touch of nostalgia that evokes memories of times gone by.
The sounds that emerge from the music boxes weave a fine web, connect and grow together, creating an atmosphere of something familiar that is at the same time unfamiliar. On the one hand there is the beauty of simplicity, the simplicity of the music boxes, on the other hand the many tonal possibilities that arise from such a supposedly one-sided instrument. The noises and sounds merge into a complexity and allow the six instruments to sound as one.

glitch éclat (ongoing)
videosynth, contra bass clarinet & fx
glitch éclat is a collaboration between clarinettist Paula Haeni and video artist Rosa Wernecke. The three audio signals of the amplified contra bass clarinet, the effect pedals and the loop machine are fed into the RGB inputs of an analogue video synthesizer and generate live RGB glitches. In this way, the bassclarinet interacts with the visuals and produces them in real time, while the video synthesizer constantly generates new signal paths through various patches. Intertwined in this setup, the glitchy sound and video landscape create a trippy hyperverse.

dis//connect\\ed (2024)
In a world characterized by technological advances and global change, the question of overcoming isolation and separation is becoming increasingly central. How can we as individuals come together again, promote and demand community and connection and overcome the barriers of language and culture? This is where latenz ensemble comes in with the project dis//connect\\ed.
The three-part series of commissioned works offers an artistic expression and a profound answer to this pressing question. Instead of limiting itself to the traditional presentation of an isolated composition, latenz ensemble opens the doors to a collaborative work.
